(Chicago, IL) — Democratic candidate for Congress Marie Newman released the following statement:

“We have recently learned that Congressman Dan Lipinski will not be attending a debate hosted by the League of Women Voters on February 20th as well as a public candidate forum hosted by the Muslim American Society on February 8th.

I am challenging Congressman Lipinski because of his record opposing the Affordable CareAct, vulnerable immigrant populations, women’s rights and a livable wage for workers and working families. If he can defend his record on those and other issues, we should schedule a debate when he can be in his district and face his constituents.

I urge Congressman Lipinski to reconsider his decision. Voters in this district should have the opportunity to vet all of the candidates vying for their support. We are more than happy to work around the Congressman’s calendar to re-schedule.”
