Marie Newman is proud to partner with, and be endorsed by, multiple organizations and individuals at the national and local level.

Senator Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders is an Independent Senator from Vermont. In 2006, he was elected to the U.S. Senate after 16 years as Vermont’s sole congressman in the House of Representatives. Bernie is the the longest serving independent member of Congress in American history. “Marie Newman has made it clear that she will be a champion for working families in Illinois, which is why I am proud to support her campaign,” said Senator Sanders. “In Congress, Marie will fight for Medicare for All, a $15 an hour minimum wage, and providing workers with benefits such as paid sick leave, while protecting Medicare and Social Security. She will defend women’s rights, LGBT rights and ensure immigrants have a safe path to citizenship. I am proud to stand with Marie and look forward to continuing to fight alongside her on these and other critical issues once she’s elected to Congress.”

LPAC builds the political power of lesbians and queer women by electing candidates who champion LGBTQ rights, women’s equality and social justice. “Marie Newman’s true progressive values make her a clear choice in this race,” said Ana Cruz, Board Member of LPAC. “Newman is in a race against an anti-choice, anti-LGBT, anti-immigrant opponent in the primary and it’s time District 3 has a progressive Democrat who values and represents a diverse constituency and an inclusive legislative agenda,” concluded Cruz. “Marie Newman is on target on every progressive issue LPAC cares about – she is exactly the kind of candidate we need in 2018 and will provide much-needed progressive leadership in Congress,” said Urvashi Vaid, Interim Executive Director of LPAC. “Core issues from gun control to health care and civil rights will be front and center in the new Congress and it is time to get the country back on track,” concluded Vaid.

Americans for Self-Rule

Americans for Self-Rule is a non-profit Political Action Committee founded to protect the democratic will of DC residents from Congressional overreach and to promote the District’s right to independent, democratic self-governance. “We are happy to endorse Marie, as a competitor to Congressman Lipinski,” said Lynette Craig, President. “The Congressman has spent far too much of his time in Washington, DC, attempting to thwart our local reproductive rights laws, so that he could win points with anti-choice donors. He should have been focusing on legislation that mattered to the people who elected him and we are certain that the people of Illinois 3rd District will be better served by Ms. Newman.”

March On

March On is a political organization comprised of women-led political activist groups that grew out of the women’s marches of January 2017. They have come together as a united force to take concrete, coordinated actions at the federal, state, and local levels to impact elections and take our country in a better direction. MARCH ON is not affiliated with Women’s March, Inc. “Marie Newman reflects the values and priorities of this district, pure and simple,” said MARCH ON board president Jaquie Algee. “Her commitment to protecting the rights of all, fighting big money in politics, and supporting a woman’s right to choose are of the highest importance for our district and the country and we are proud to support her.”

Marie will not only run as a labor friendly democrat but will vote as one and she has our support in this race. Also, APWU local #6266 stands with Marie Newman as a dependable advocate for postal worker and union rights. Marie has shown her willingness to not only protect our workers but advance them as well. Planned Parenthood Action Fund

Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) is a nonprofit, non-partisan group. PPAF is backed by more than 10 million activists, donors, and other supporters all working to advance access to sexual health care and defend reproductive rights. PPAF fights back when anti-abortion politicians and their extremist allies try to outlaw abortion, take away access to affordable birth control, and block patients from care at Planned Parenthood health centers. “Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Marie Newman for the U.S. House of Representatives. Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District needs a champion who will fight for women’s rights and access to reproductive health care. Newman trusts women and knows that women are the best ones to make their own health care decisions — not politicians in Congress,” said PPAF President Cecile Richards. “In contrast, Dan Lipinski has time and time again tried to take away women’s access to health care. He voted multiple times to ban abortion, block patients from coming to Planned Parenthood health centers for care, and cut women’s essential health care benefits. Dan Lipinski’s views on women’s health are akin to those of President Trump and Vice President Pence – extreme, dangerous, and woefully out of touch. It’s clear that the people of Illinois’ 3rd District cannot afford to have someone like Lipinski in office. Instead they need a champion like Marie Newman, who will fight for the patients who depend on Planned Parenthood health centers.”

EMILY’s List

EMILY’s List has a vision to be a driving force of change in America. By electing more pro-choice Democratic women to national, state and local office, EMILY’s List will consistently infuse our government with leaders who will drive change. EMILY’s List is committed to driving progressive change throughout our country by winning elections that put pro-choice Democratic women into office. “With this Congress intent on ripping fundamental rights and autonomy away from women, it is critical that we elect leaders who stand with us. That is why we are endorsing Marie Newman for Congress,” said EMILY’s List President Stephanie Shriock. “Throughout her career, Marie has worked to improve her community and advocate on behalf of children and families. Her record is unimpeachable. As a small businesswoman and nonprofit executive, Marie has shown that she will not back down from a challenge – a trait that will serve her well when fighting for the families of the 3rd District in Washington. The reality is that Dan Lipinski has not shown himself to be a leader that women and families can depend on. He has put women’s reproductive health care in jeopardy and sought to end protections against discrimination. This is not an acceptable way to govern – and it’s certainly not what the people of Illinois’ 3rd District deserve. We support Marie Newman in this election and urge the voters in this district to join us. With Trump and Congressional Republicans working around the clock to take us backwards, we need an ally like Marie fighting for progress. It’s time for change.”

Illinois Federation of Teachers

The Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) is made up of more than 100,000 teachers and paraprofessionals in PreK-12 school districts throughout Illinois, faculty and staff at community colleges and universities, public employees under every statewide elected constitutional officer, and retirees. More than 5,000 IFT members live in the 3rd congressional district of Illinois. “IFT is proud to endorse Marie Newman for Congress in Illinois’ 3rd District and know she will be a tireless champion for women and working families in our communities,” said IFT President Dan Montgomery. “Dan Lipinski has been no friend to public schools or our students, voting to block regulation of for-profit colleges while supporting numerous school voucher programs and so-called ‘education reform’ efforts. Now more than ever, we need someone who will stand up for what’s right in Washington, and that is Marie Newman.”

SEIU IL State Council

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Illinois Council is widely regarded as an ardent champion of working people; representing members in child care, property services, the public sector and health care related industries – fields that contribute to the overall prosperity of state and local economies. The Council exists to protect and bolster a standard of living for members and their families by bargaining for good labor contracts and bringing the benefits of SEIU membership to non-union employees. “Congressman Lipinski’s refusal to support a $15 minimum wage for working people shows how deeply out of touch he is with the working families of his district,” said SEIU Illinois State Council President Tom Balanoff. “Whether it’s voting against Obamacare or voting for restrictions on a woman’s right to choose, it is clear Congressman Lipinski does not share the progressive values of his constituents. SEIU is proud to join a long list of progressive leaders and organizations in endorsing Marie Newman for Congress.”

We are honored to endorse her to represent Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District. The people of the 3rd district deserve new representation by someone who reflects the values of her community as well as Democratic Party.”

Khanna. “I am proud to endorse Marie Newman because of her strong stand on women’s rights and progressive values.”

J Street PAC

J Street PAC was established in 2008 as the first-ever federal political action committee (PAC) to explicitly promote American leadership to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The PAC’s goal is to demonstrate the depth and breadth of political support that exists for candidates who speak out in favor of a diplomacy-first approach to advancing US interests in the Middle East and promoting peace and security for Israel. Congressman Lipinski was one of only 25 Democrats who voted against the Iran nuclear agreement in 2015. Marie Newman is confident that a two-state solution is the answer to reaching a peaceful end to the ongoing conflict between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. She understands the grave threat that a nuclear Iran poses for the stability of the region and US security and has said that implementing the JCPOA will be a key priority for her once elected to Congress.

She is not only our choice, but our recommendation.”

Marie will fight for the reproductive freedom of all Illinois families, protect immigrants and our Dreamers and fight to give all hardworking families their best shot,” said Gutiérrez.

Congresswoman Schakowsky has represented the 9th Congressional District since 1999 and has been a proud supporter of marriage equality, comprehensive immigration reform, and for a woman’s right to choose. “The people of Illinois’ 3rd district want a pro-health care, pro-immigrant, pro-woman, pro-LGBTQ Member of Congress to represent them in Washington. Unfortunately, the current Member does not reflect those values, which is why I am endorsing Marie Newman for Congress, ” said Schakowsky, “Marie Newman is a bold progressive with real experience fighting bullies, just like the one in the White House. We need more women like Marie Newman in Congress.”

Pueblo Sin Fronteras / Familia Latina Unida was formed primarily by undocumented Mexican Catholics whose efforts to organize their own community and provide a better education for their children were opposed by the neighborhood Catholic Church. They were active in their church and depended on their faith – but they wanted a church that would support their efforts. “Marie Newman is the clear choice for strong leadership for immigrant families in the 3rd Congressional district,” said Pastor Emma Lozano. “For too long, the 3rd has had anti-immigrant and anti-women’s health representation. And it’s time for a strong progressive like Marie to represent the true values of the community.”

Pawar joins a growing list of progressive people and institutions who are lending their support to Newman’s campaign. “Marie Newman is a fighter committed to social justice. You see, while politicians like Bruce Rauner and Donald Trump bully people and communities with their divisive politics, Marie has been recognized nationally for her efforts to combat bullying in schools,” said Ameya Pawar. “She’s worked for many years to promote common sense gun reforms and as an advocate for cancer research. Marie’s candidacy presents us with a choice: elect a progressive who believes we rise and fall together, or continue with more of the same entrenched and divisive politics. This is what makes her candidacy compelling and inspiring. By supporting Marie, we are supporting an agenda for all of us. An agenda which includes more funding for public education, Medicare for All, and greater support for working families across our nation. The choice couldn’t be clearer.”

Gloria Steinem

Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, political activist, and feminist organizer. “We need effective, principled fighters who can put an end to this president’s unilateral actions by stopping them in Congress – and that’s what Marie Newman will do. It’s what she stands for. She is unafraid of doing what’s right, even in this time when it isn’t easy. Too many times, Dan Lipinski has voted to deprive citizens of healthcare, to oppose immigrant’s rights, to de-fund Planned Parenthood, to suppress contraception, to oppose marriage equality, and to deny the rights of LGBTQ Americans. He is not a Democrat or even a supporter of human rights.”

Feminist Majority

The Feminist Majority is dedicated to women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. “The Feminist Majority is proud to endorse Marie Newman to represent the 3rd District of Illinois in the United States House of Representatives. Newman is challenging anti-choice candidate Dan Lipinski for the Illinois 3rd congressional district seat. Dan Lipinski has consistently voted against women’s rights and opposed LGBTQ rights in the name of ‘religious liberty.’ We can no longer accept Democratic candidates who sideline or oppose the rights of women and LGBTQ people. The American Women’s Party is committed to endorsing strong candidates like Newman who will fight for the rights of women and marginalized groups.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America

NARAL Pro-Choice America engages in the fight for reproductive freedom for every person in every state. Each day, NARAL works to organize and mobilize to protect that freedom by fighting for access to abortion care, birth control, paid parental leave and protections from pregnancy discrimination. “Time is up for Congressman Lipinski. For too long, Dan Lipinski has ignored the needs of working families across Illinois, by pushing his fringe ideological agenda at the expense of women and families across the state,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Congressman Lipinski is way out of step with his constituents and with Democratic party principles when it comes to women’s rights, LGBT equality, and the basic freedoms that Americans hold dear. In contrast, Marie Newman holds equality and self-determination as non-negotiable and will fight for all of our rights, including our reproductive freedom. NARAL members are proud to stand with Marie Newman as she fights to give Illinois families a voice in Congress.”

Launched in 1998, MoveOn pioneered online organizing and advocacy techniques that have become standard in politics, nonprofits, and industry in the U.S. and worldwide. “Dan Lipinski is one of the worst Democrats in Congress. He voted against the Affordable Care Act, has consistently opposed a woman’s right to choose, and has sided with Donald Trump in support of his horrific anti-immigrant agenda,” said Matt Blizek, elections mobilization director for MoveOn.org Political Action. “For Democrats to win back the House in 2018, they need to do so with candidates who act like Democrats, not Donald Trump Republicans. That’s why Marie Newman earned more than 90% of the votes cast among the 11,000 MoveOn members in Illinois’ 3rd congressional district. We’re proud to support Marie Newman, who will be a progressive voice to represent the values of Illinois’ 3rd District voters in Congress.”

Democracy For America

Democracy For America (DFA) is a member-driven, people-powered political action committee committed to transforming the Democratic Party from the ground up. “Democracy for America members are supporting Marie Newman in her race for Congress because Illinois voters deserve a Democratic congressional delegation that is as unflinchingly committed to fighting for abortion rights and LGBT equality as they are to standing up to any other racial and economic injustice,” said Charles Chamberlain, executive director of Democracy for America. “Congressman Dan Lipinski’s backward, right-wing ideology is profoundly out of step with a twenty-first century Democratic Party and we can’t wait to see him replaced by Marie Newman in the U.S. House.”

Progressive Change Campaign Committee

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) is is a million-member grassroots organization building power at the local, state, and federal levels. It engages in electoral work and issue advocacy work on democracy issues and for economic populist priorities. “Dan Lipinski may have a D next to his name—but he isn’t a Democrat, and his record proves it. Dan Lipinski opposed the Affordable Care Act, voted with Republicans to gut Wall Street regulations, and voted against student debt relief. In addition to voting with big corporations against working families, he’s consistently undermined the rights of women, immigrants, and the LGBTQ community,” said Stephanie Taylor, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. “Marie Newman is on the side of working people, and will be a champion for issues they talk about across the kitchen table. That’s why we’re proud to endorse Marie Newman in the primary against Dan Lipinski. The people of Illinois deserve a real Democrat and progressive leader who will side with them—not with Wall Street.”

Whether it’s in the classroom, the boardroom, Congress, or at home, every woman can affect change in ways both big and small. “We need Marie Newman in Congress so that we have another vote for health care, for women, and for our LGBTQ friends and family,” Senator Gillibrand said. “Marie is willing to stand up for what the constituents of the Third want, which is why she’s gaining so much support in district.
